NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Plans and Restrictive Practices Explained

An image of someone looking confused or distressed, implying that a restrictive practice has been used and a positive behaviour support plan is required.

For people on the NDIS, Positive Behaviour Support Plans and Restrictive Practices are a big topic within the fields of Support Work or Therapy such as Art Therapy or Equine Therapy.

You may have heard of them, and you may have found the terms confusing. We’ve set out to bring you up to speed.

Below is a video that covers the basics of this important topic, it’s only a few minutes long and is  great starting point.

This video is part of a series we have created to offer easy-to-follow explanations for some of the terms you hear used in the disability field or related to the NDIS. Each video offers a good overview but is not intended to be comprehensive. If you want a simple understanding or to see if a topic something you need to be concerned about, than that’s great. If you need detailed advice, these videos will not do that for you, you may like to follow these links or search elsewhere for content.

Further Info

If you’ve realised this is something you need to look at much more deeply, here are some further resources.

  • If you’d like to read the highly technical explanation of restrictive practices from the NDIS, it’s here.
  • If you’d like to see what the NDIS has to say about Positive Behaviour Support Plans, it’s here
  • If you need to find a Positive Behaviour Support Plan Practitioner to write a PBSP (we are not one) then there is a searchable database maintained by the NDIS here.

We hope you have found this information useful, feel free to leave us feedback, we’d love to hear from you. You can do it via our contact form. We’re also interested in hearing any other things you find confusing about the NDIS as it gives us topics for future videos.
