NDIS Pricing for Disability Support Work
The NDIS sets maximum hourly rates to ensure that participants receive fair and consistent pricing across providers. The cost of disability support varies depending on factors such as:
- The type of support required (personal care, social support, domestic assistance, etc.)
- The time and day of service (weekday vs. weekends or public holidays) TIP: If you have the choice, do stuff on weekdays, it’s cheaper! Weekends are great for group activities which are substantially cheaper.
- The level of support (standard vs. high-intensity)
- Additional costs (e.g., travel charges for support workers coming to your home)
Here’s a breakdown of common NDIS support costs in South Australia for 2025:

Private Disability Support Costs
For those not using NDIS funding, Heartfelt Support provides the same professional rates as the NDIS, but as a private service, GST (10%) must be added to the total.
Here’s what that means for private clients:
Support Item | Heartfelt Support Private Rate (inc. GST) |
---|---|
Assistance with Self-Care Activities – Standard (Weekday Daytime) | $74.32/hr |
Assistance with Self-Care Activities – High Intensity (Weekday Daytime) | $101.30/hr |
Community Participation Activities (Weekday Daytime) | $74.32/hr |
House Cleaning and Other Household Activities (Weekday Only) | $61.85/hr |
House or Yard Maintenance (Weekday Only) | $60.73/hr |
For weekend and public holiday rates, simply add 10% GST to the NDIS rate.
How Does the NDIS Set Pricing for Support Work?
The NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits are reviewed and updated regularly by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission in consultation with industry experts, disability service providers, and participants. These price limits are set to balance fair compensation for workers, affordability for participants, and the sustainability of providers.
A key consideration in the pricing structure is that the NDIS allows for an estimated provider profit margin of approximately 8%. This margin is factored into the rates to ensure that providers can remain financially viable while delivering high-quality support. However, providers must also cover a wide range of business expenses, including:
- Staff wages (including penalty rates for weekends and public holidays)
- Training and compliance costs to meet NDIS quality and safeguarding standards
- Administration expenses (such as rostering, client management, and reporting)
- Insurance and operational costs (such as public liability, workers’ compensation, and professional indemnity)
- Transport and travel expenses for mobile support workers
Other Cost Considerations
1. Travel Costs
Some services may incur travel charges, especially in regional or remote areas. Under NDIS, this is typically funded separately. For private clients, travel costs will be discussed upfront to ensure transparency.
2. Cancellation Fees
The NDIS allows providers to charge 100% of the scheduled fee if a participant cancels a service without adequate notice, which can be up to five days. At Heartfelt Support, we recognize that flexibility is important, so we require only 48 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation charge.
3. Support Coordination and Plan Management Fees
If you require support coordination or plan management, these services are charged separately under the NDIS pricing guide or as a private service with GST included. Your support coordinator can help you with your budget, too.
